I Love Singing
3rd January 2011 | 6:25 am
I love singing. I’ll say it again. I LOVE singing! As Vocal Awareness prepares to launch into 2011, I continue to speak with my Team about the importance of creating new singing content. Singing is primal. It is part of the natural order of things. It is not even an outgrowth of the speaking voice but a separate neuropathway. So as we begin a new year, think about the “Joy of Singing”. Hum when you are stressed. Hum and sing because it makes you feel good. Do it a lot!
I’ll share my acrostic on Singing.
We sing:
S to sensually
I integrate
N nurture and
G give to ourselves and others.
I Share My New Year’s Message – “Live in the Gift of Life”
12th December 2010 | 8:36 pm
As 2010 winds down and 2011 is on the horizon, I sit composing my annual New Year’s letter. In preparation I reflect for days on “what will I speak about this year?” I focus on what might emerge from my Deeper Listening. Every year of course, is different. It is a new moment in time. But it also feels familiar—as the patterns and expectations are generally similar. This season in our yearly cycle is often filled with hope, promise, a vow to “this time, keep one’s resolutions.” But 2011 has one other compelling element for me. I turn 65 in January. Now, I know, 65 is the “new 50”. But the point simply is, that in reality (at least on this plane), there is less time left on the back end of my journey, than I have spent on the front end.

My Recent NFL Moment…
9th December 2010 | 10:52 pm
Last Sunday morning I was at the NFL Network. Actually most Sundays at the dark hour of 4:50am I am there, warming up my clients as they prepare for their team broadcast. Right before “show time” I hear a Yawn-Sigh from the set. (This is one of the basic exercises in Vocal Awareness – it sort of sounds like a moose-mating call as one of my clients has so dearly described this vocal awakening). I walk on the set and there are my guys – Michael Irvin, Warren Sapp, Steve Mariucci and Marshall Faulk. They had all done a beautiful Yawn-Sigh, immediately followed by a bought of laughter. (Their triumphant vocal warm-up was not quite a scene from The Full Monty, but good enough to make anyone crack a smile). I knew they were giving homage to the Work, and in response I did a small bow. Later, during one of the commercial breaks I was yammering with the guys and Marshall said he predicted I would bow; he knew that it was my way of recognizing and respecting the moment – humbling and from the heart. I will never forget this image of these four great athletes on set – a perfect example of champions dedicated to the Work, integrating it not just this into their performance but into their every day lives.
The King Has Spoken…
23rd November 2010 | 5:37 am
I am very much looking forward to seeing the film, “The King’s Speech”, starring Colin Firth, Derek Jacobi, Helena Bonham Carter, and Geoffrey Rush which opens in theaters Nov. 26th. “The King’s Speech” delves into a subject matter I’ve had intimate experience with during my many decades of teaching Vocal Awareness. On the surface it is clearly a movie about King George VI – his serious and terrifying challenge with stuttering and his relationship with his unorthodox speech therapist, Lionel Logue. But on a deeper level, the film and the condition itself are both about challenges and opportunity. The challenges are obvious, but the opportunity is to claim who we truly are, to discover the extraordinary person who resides within us and reveal that person through our Voice.

The Ripple of a Rock…
12th November 2010 | 6:30 am
When we drop a rock in a pond, the rock doesn’t simply sink to the bottom, instead that single rock affects the entire body of water sending out its rings to every part of the pond. For many years I’ve been dropping my own rocks in various ponds around the globe and they’ve been extending their rings out creating greater and greater connection and conscious awareness. Yet while I have worked with thousands of extraordinary people, I knew that my rocks alone simply weren’t quite big enough to make the impact that I feel compelled to make. Now for the first time I have created an expanded Vocal Awareness Team to help me amplify the volume of my message. Because together we can fulfill my life’s mission: To Change The World Through Voice.
This site, including my blog, the Questions and Answers page, and the Membership Club, has emerged as my opportunity to interact with you directly. Vocal Awareness, like life, requires courage, is not for the faint of heart. It’s an opportunity to heal your greatest fears and discover new Joy. My team and I have created this site for you – you who are truly ready and willing to uncover the Power of your Voice (both inner and outer). You will find insight, community, and support here. Use the site and specifically the VIP Club (which is coming soon) to strengthen or create your daily Vocal Awareness practice. Remember – Voice is Power.
So enjoy the Journey and enjoy what happens when you consciously breathe, when you speak visually, when you always stay tuned in. This is your opportunity to embody the excellence that resides within you. Create your own ripples today.
